The Yr 11 Football Team received a tough draw in the County Cup, coming up against a very strong North Leamington School team. Although not having great expectations from the match, our midfield competed well in the first half, and our defence soaked up a lot of NLS pressure, Liam Squirrell in goal pulling off one excellent save. Our forwards also worked hard to close down any space for their defenders and on the odd occasion threatened there goal. With the score 0-0 at half-time, we realised that a result wasn’t out of the question in this tie and belief began to grow.
Some more tough tackling and ‘controlled’ aggression and physicality, kept us in the game early in the 2nd half, and we even mustered a couple of efforts on goal, but we final succumbed to a swift counter attack and smart finish.
It was always going to be difficult chasing the game, but tactical substitutions from George, our 2nd half manager, kept our intensity high and ensured we always possessed a threat. However, it wasn’t to be as 2 late goals sealed a 3-0 victory for NLS, but our boys can hold their heads up high.
Patrick was a popular choice for man of the match for his ‘touch’ and 100% pass rate, but Josh Thomas fully deserved the accolade for his effervescent work rate and skill and balance on the ball.
Better luck next time in the other cup competitions, but results will come if the energy and performance levels remain this high!
Hard luck lads. Be proud of your efforts in a good season. Keep it up! Mr Elkerton
