Year 10 Rugby

Southam V Bilton (Varsity Match)

Confidence boosting win for the Year 10 Rugby Team.

The Year 10 Rugby Team produced their best performance of the year so far with a comprehensive victory in the Varsity Rugby fixture against a slightly weakened Bilton team.

Our forwards took control in the first half, dominating possession and territory, crossing the line 3 times with Ben Leahy kicking some great conversion to extend our lead to 21-0 at half-term. It could have been more if Lucas Evans had remembered to ground the ball after a mazing run took him past half the Bilton time, but also out of play!

Bilton hit back early in the second half, capitalising from an early Southam ‘knock on’. We didn’t, however, let this affect our game. Strong running from Matthew Hughes and tireless work from our forwards, wrestled control of the game back definitively. Bilton ran out of answers to our incessant pressure and we scored 5 more times in the 2nd half to record a 52-7 victory.

Congratulations to the team on a great performance. You filled you Head of Year with pride. It was just a pity that a number of last minute drop outs weren’t able to share in our success!

Tries from: Matthew Hughes (3), Dan Turner, Joe Bromley, Sam Washbrook, Charlie Thwaites and Mackenzie Spilman-Penn. Ben Leahy – 6 conversions.

Man of the Match – Matthew Hughes
