Year 9 History Trip to the Battlefields of WW1

Both coaches have had a great day visiting sites down on the Somme. All staff and students attended the Royal British Legion ceremony of commemoration at Thiepval memorial this morning and Sam Enston and Marie Pavey laid a wreath from Southam College.

We visited the Devonshire cemetery, Mametz Wood (to see the Welsh Dragon memorial), Newfoundland Park at Beaumont Hamel and Lochnagar crater. It’s been a busy and tiring day but the students have asked lots of relevant and interesting questions and have been incredibly respectful of the places we have visited.

Back at the hostel this evening student have had the chance to try snail eating! This didn’t go down too well.

Students are now enjoying the sunshine with some social time before bed.
