Year 9 Football District Semi Final

On Wednesday the Year 9’s played the District Semi Football game at home V Myton. With a slightly depleted squad due to a clashed athletics fixture the boys played out of position and had just 11 players. The game was tight and hard taught in the first half. Both sides had fair chances but solid saves or blocks meant it was 0-0 at half time.
Southam needed to move the ball better with increased accuracy to create better chances. Runs from Fin P and Josh T were good but sapped energy and were being shut down in the final 3rd. The boys did try and execute but could still not break the deadlock.
The game went to extra time and within 2 mins of the restart heartbreak when their pacy right wing rounded Oz K at left back pulling a delicious ball back to the edge of the 6 yard box to be finished by the arriving centre toward. Sou responded straight away pushing and creating 2 good chances. Southam got a deep fee kick in the dying minutes. A superb free kick was whipped in from Owen K to the edge of the box and Riley B superbly headed across the goal into the top corner. A class goal, 1-1 it stayed till full time.
Penalties were Rowan’s shining moment, he saved the first, got to another and Myton’s 4th was Skyed over. All our boys slotted theirs away. Well done boys, the final is on 17th May at Central Ajax.
