After a long hot gruelling day at sports day eleven Year 8 girls went along to Myton to play in the areas rounders tournament.
The first game started extremely strongly against North Leam A team which saw Southam win 5 and 1/2 rounders to 3, Southam’s fielding was excellent with some awesome catches by Aoife Williams and Marie Pavey. The second game Southam played Campion which saw some excellent batting by Jodie Rigg, Amy Carro and Larissa Hurt seeing Southam win again.
The third game saw Southam play Kenilworth B team. There was some outstanding batting by the whole team but specifically Jodie and Amy which saw Southam put 8 rounders past them. Fielding was strong and some fantastic catches were made by Georgie Hurt, which meant Kenilworth only got 3 1/2 rounders.
Unfortunately the winning streak came to end in the final game of the pool again Kingsley. Again the game saw some brilliant batting by Marie Pavey and Clarice Ellis-Greenway however Southam could only score 3 1/2 past a very strong fielding performance by Kingsley. The girls fielded well however Kingsley managed to squeeze 5 1/2 past them. This result meant that Southam finished second in the pool and had made it through to the semi final against Kenilworth A.
Southam fielded first and managed to stop Kenilworth scoring too many rounders (6), this was helped by some awesome catches, bowling and fielding by Jodie Rigg, Leah Constable, Nomie Nicholas. Southam came into bat and decided to take a few risks which saw only 3 players remain in play throughout the 21 balls. There were some excellent shots however Southam could only score 3 1/2 past such a strong fielding team.
Batter of the day: Jodie Rigg
Fielder of the day: Marie Pavey
The girls played excellently considering they had all been busy earlier during sports day. I was very proud of your performance girls you should be very proud of yourselves, well done!!
“Well done girls a solid display. We’ll have ’em next time!!” Mr Elkerton
